Build training from your menu, send it to the right people and see who has finished.
Section 5
Team communication
Channels, direct messages and announcements that show who read them.
Section 6
AI assistant and knowledge
Upload your documents, choose who opens each one and ask Gid.
Section 1
Getting started
Create your company, bring your team in and install the app. Everyone then works in the same workspace, on iOS, Android and the web.
Step 1
Create your company
Tap Try Gid for free. On Setup Your Company, enter the company name and your details as the administrator, then tap Create Account.
Step 2
Bring your team in
Open People and tap Add people, or bring the whole roster in from a spreadsheet and review it before the invites go out. With Copy join link, a manager confirms each person who joins.
Step 3
Install the app
The App Store app, the Google Play app and the web app at app-gidai-ca.web.app open the same workspace.
Step 4
Plan the first week
Each new person gets a setup card: a two-minute chat with Gid, their availability, their integration plan and a first training. A new hire can follow a seven-day plan with a supervisor and a mentor, and a check-in on day three.
Who can do it
The administrator, then managers
Whoever creates the company is its administrator. Managers and owners invite people from People, and each new person completes their own setup card.
The full guide
Restaurant employee onboarding checklist
Before day one, the first day and the first week of a new hire, and how Gid runs it.
Section 2
Scheduling
Everyone gives their availability, managers build and publish the week, each person confirms their own shifts, and open shifts move through the Shift Marketplace.
Step 1
Give your availability
Open My Availability and set every day Available, Off or Replacement only, with the hours you can work. Add time off in Time off & exceptions.
Step 2
Build the week
Open Team Schedule and use Create shift, Copy last week or Use template from the actions menu. Smart assign leaves out people with the wrong role or who are not available that day.
Step 3
Publish and confirm
Tap Publish schedule and your team can see the updated schedule. Each person confirms their own shifts on the phone.
Step 4
Hand off or cover a shift
In the Shift Marketplace, a shift can be handed to a teammate, opened to the team, covered or picked up. Find me a cover asks the trained crew first, then the whole team, and the manager confirms whoever steps in.
Who can do it
Everyone, and managers for the week
Everyone sets their availability, confirms their shifts and uses the Shift Marketplace. Managers and owners build and publish the week, and review time off and shift changes in Schedule Approvals.
The full guide
Restaurant scheduling software
The schedule, shift confirmations, team chat and training in one app, at one price per location.
Section 3
Tasks
Every task has an owner and, when it matters, proof. Checklists repeat on their own and go to the person working the shift.
Step 1
Create a task
In Tasks, tap New task. Every task has an assignee, a department and a priority. Repeat it daily, weekly or monthly, and Gid creates each copy on its own.
Step 2
Start from a template
Reuse your saved task sets in Task Library, or tap Browse Gid Library for ready templates such as the Opening Tour and the Closing Tour.
Step 3
Ask for proof
Ask for a photo, before and after photos, a signature, notes, or a reading checked against its safe range. A task can stay pending until a manager approves it.
Step 4
Attach it to the shift
Attach tasks to a shift when you create it, and they go to the person working it. A late task reminds its owner, then the manager after the delay you set.
Who can do it
Everyone creates, managers assign
Everyone can create a task and complete the tasks assigned to them. Managers and above assign a task to someone else and see the whole team's tasks.
The full guide
Restaurant task management
Daily, weekly and monthly task lists, and how Gid gives each task an owner, a due time and proof.
Section 4
Training
Build short trainings from your menu, a template or scratch, send each one to the right people, and see who has finished.
Step 1
Build a training
Open Training Creator and choose From a menu, From a template or From scratch. From a menu, Gid drafts four front-of-house trainings that you review before your team sees them.
Step 2
Assign it
Send it to a department, such as front of house, or to specific people. Make it due by a set date, or by a day on the job for a new hire.
Step 3
See who has finished
You see who has completed it, who is in progress, who has not started and who is overdue.
Step 4
Learn on the phone
Each teammate opens My Training on the phone and finds the next recommended step.
Who can do it
Managers build, everyone learns
Managers and owners build and assign training in Training Creator. Everyone learns in My Training.
The full guide
Server training for restaurants
A two-week server training plan, and how Gid runs it on every server's phone.
Section 5
Team communication
Team channels, private groups and direct messages live in the restaurant's Gid workspace, next to the schedule and the tasks.
Step 1
Start a conversation
In the chat, tap New conversation, then Message a teammate or New team channel. Teammates reach each other from the team list inside the app, so nobody hands out a personal number.
Step 2
Send an announcement
An announcement goes to everyone, a role, a department or chosen people. It can ask each person to acknowledge it, and the manager sees who read it and can nudge the rest.
Step 3
Keep the work in the thread
Link a task, a shift or a document into the conversation. Share a task into the conversation and its status travels with it.
Step 4
Choose your notifications
For each conversation, a person picks every message, only the messages that mention them, or mute. The workplace can also set quiet hours.
Who can do it
Everyone chats, managers announce
Everyone messages teammates and opens team channels. Managers and owners post announcements from Announcements in the menu.
The full guide
Restaurant team communication
Why a personal group chat fails for shift talk, and what a team channel needs.
Section 6
AI assistant and knowledge
Gid answers your team's questions from the documents you upload, and only for the accounts that turn Gid AI on.
Step 1
Upload your documents
Open Operations Knowledge and tap Upload. Upload PDF, Word, Excel and CSV files, photos and videos. Gid suggests a category, and you keep the one that fits.
Step 2
Choose who opens each one
Set who can open each document: everyone, managers only, or executives only. HR policies and financial documents start as managers only.
Step 3
Ask Gid
Tap the G and type your question where it says Ask Gid anything. Gid answers from your documents. Archive a document and Gid stops using it for answers unless someone asks for it.
Step 4
Know what the AI does
Gid asks before an account's first use of Gid AI, and schedules, tasks and team chat work without it. Gid never posts a reply to a Google review on its own.
Who can do it
Owners upload, everyone asks
Owners and executives upload, archive and delete documents. Everyone opens the documents they are allowed to see in Operations Knowledge, view only, and can ask Gid.
The full guide
Restaurant SOPs, recipes and menus in one place
What belongs in an SOP library, and who should be able to open each document.
Questions, answered
How do I get started with Gid?
Tap Try Gid for free, set up your company, then invite your team from People. The free workspace brings you plus one helper. Bringing the full team means a paid location.
Which devices does Gid run on?
The iOS app, the Android app and the web app at app-gidai-ca.web.app. Everyone works in the same workspace.
Who can see a document?
You choose for each document: everyone, managers only, or executives only. HR policies and financial documents start as managers only.
Where does Gid's assistant get its answers?
From the documents you upload to Operations Knowledge. Archive a document and Gid stops using it for answers unless someone asks for it.
Do I have to use the AI?
No. Gid asks before an account's first use of Gid AI, and schedules, tasks and team chat work without it.
Does Gid have an API?
Gid does not offer a self-serve public API. Integrations are set up with our team, and we build custom integrations free of charge for any system that allows it.
